DJs Will Now Have to Charge 5% Tax
LD 1495, a compromise bill passed by the Maine
Legislature and signed by Gov. John Baldacci, has
forced a new tax upon those that contract DJ
services within the state of Maine.
As of January 1, 2010, DJ services will be
subject to a 5% sales tax.

6th Annual Convention a Rousing Success
The 6th Annual Maine Disc Jockey Network Convention
was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport,
Maine.
This year's seminars included a Mobile DJ
Business Calendar by Massachusetts DJ Rob Peters and
an introduction to the Video DJing Frontier by Wells
DJ Jerry Bazata.

1. Been in the
mobile DJ business
for at least 5 years as a
Function DJ (Weddings, Bar/Bat
Mitzvahs, Corporate Parties) and
must be a single operator
(there
is one grandfathered exception
in our network).
2. Register your business name
with your
hometown.
3. Issue written contracts for
EVERY Formal event.
4. Need to carry liability
insurance of at least $1,000,000
for the safety of guests and to
insure financial stability of
the DJ company in case there is
a claim.
i.e. A company could
potentially go out of business
WITHOUT insurance
5. ALWAYS have backup equipment
on-site in case of failure.
6. Be appropriately attired for
the occasion at which they are
entertaining.
(i.e. Tuxedos for
weddings, etc)
7. Willing to be called as a
replacement in case another
member is unable to perform.
8. Will never sub-contract a job
for a higher paying one.
9. Must present at least three
(3) client references within the past 6 months
AND at least one (1) vendor reference not
directly related to your business. |
